Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi met with Qatari mediators in New York on Monday, according to a source close to the Iranian negotiating team who spoke to Iran's national broadcaster IRIB. The meeting was expected to focus on the latest developments concerning the exchange of messages between Iran and the United States.
Araghchi is in New York to attend the annual United Nations General Assembly. The source told IRIB earlier on Monday that the foreign minister would meet the Qatari mediator later in the day.
The Islamic Republic of Iran explicitly conveyed its views and conditions to the American side through Qatari mediation last Tuesday, according to the report.
A US journalist working with NBC later reported that Araghchi and the Qatari mediators had held a meeting. The journalist said the Qatari mediators also held talks with the US delegation.
Qatar has served as a channel for indirect communication between Tehran and Washington. The talks in New York took place on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, where Iranian officials have been holding a series of diplomatic meetings.
According to Mehr News, the meeting between Araghchi and the Qatari mediators was part of ongoing efforts to manage the exchange of messages between Iran and the United States.
