Flash floods in Bangladesh kill 51, affect over 1 million

According to the latest daily disaster situation report released by Bangladesh's Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief, flash floods have swept the country for about one week, killing 51 people as of Sunday afternoon. The report, cited by a senior ministry official speaking on condition of anonymity, stated that more than 1.02 million people have been marooned by floods in seven out of the country's total 64 districts. Additionally, 267,918 families have been affected.

The floods and landslides, triggered by heavy seasonal rains, have caused widespread damage to houses, crops, roads, and highways across large swaths of the country. Authorities have mobilized disaster response teams to carry out rescue operations, distribute relief materials, and manage shelters where nearly 50,000 people have taken refuge.

According to Mehr News, the situation remains critical as rescue efforts continue. The report by the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief added that the death toll may rise as more areas become accessible.
