EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas meets Iran FM Araghchi in New York

EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas met with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi in New York, according to Mehr News. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session.

Earlier the same day, Araghchi held separate meetings with Qatar's Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani and Swiss counterpart Ignazio Cassis, all in New York.

The 81st session of the UN General Assembly opened on Tuesday at the UN headquarters in New York under the theme, "Restoring trust, managing transformation: A United Nations that delivers for all." The annual gathering brings together heads of state, foreign ministers and other senior officials for a week of diplomacy and bilateral talks.

The report also noted that the US government refused to issue visas to some members of President Masoud Pezeshkian's delegation, including his media team, a move described in the Mehr News account as a hostile act.

According to Mehr News, the meetings were part of a series of diplomatic engagements by the Iranian foreign minister during the UNGA session.
