China has welcomed the progress made in talks between Iran and the United States, expressing support for mediation efforts by Pakistan and Qatar. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun stated on Monday that China hopes both sides will sustain the momentum of negotiations and continue to work towards each other to achieve positive outcomes.
The remarks came in response to an inquiry regarding the Iran-US talks mediated by Pakistan and Qatar, which resulted in a consensus on Monday to establish a communication line aimed at safeguarding shipping through the Strait of Hormuz and de-escalating the conflict in Lebanon. The development was reported by Global Times.
Both Iranian and US negotiators, following their four-way talks in Switzerland, indicated that significant progress had been made. The talks were attended and mediated by representatives from Qatar and Pakistan.
According to Mehr News Agency, the agreement marks a step forward in reducing tensions between the two countries, particularly concerning maritime security in the strategic Strait of Hormuz and the situation in Lebanon. China's endorsement adds international support to the mediation process.
