The United States Central Command (CENTCOM), which oversees American forces deployed to the West Asia region, issued a statement on Friday claiming it had attacked targets in Iran. The statement said the aggression was in retaliation for a Thursday drone strike against a vessel identified as the Singapore-flagged cargo ship MV Ever Lovely. According to CENTCOM, the strike occurred as the vessel was departing the Strait of Hormuz along the Omani coast.
Iran has categorically rejected any allegations of targeting non-military objects and has warned about attempts to implicate the country in such attacks through staged "false flag" operations. The CENTCOM statement follows repeated American violations of a ceasefire announced on April 7 by US President Donald Trump during the latest bout of unprovoked American-Israeli aggression against the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The announcement also comes after the latest round of talks between Washington and Tehran on implementing a recently signed memorandum of understanding, whose first clause clearly necessitates cessation of aggression on all fronts. Iran has decisively retaliated against all violations, while warning adversaries against repeating their miscalculations.
According to Mehr News Agency, the situation remains tense as both sides continue to exchange accusations. The report by Mehr News added that Iran maintains its stance of rejecting any involvement in attacks on civilian vessels and urges the international community to investigate the claims independently.
