Bushehr nuclear plant remains Russia's priority, says Rosatom CEO

During the Russia-ASEAN summit in Kazan on Wednesday, Rosatom CEO Alexei Likhachev addressed reporters, emphasizing that the resolution of the Iranian nuclear issue is a primary concern for the corporation. He welcomed efforts to resolve the matter and expressed support for international oversight, including monitoring by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), provided that the IAEA assumes specific responsibility and acts in the interests of all parties involved.

Likhachev stressed that the Bushehr nuclear power plant remains a key priority for Rosatom. He noted that the corporation has not paused production for a single moment, and its engineering units continue to manufacture necessary equipment for the new units of the Bushehr plant. "We have not stopped the operations of our engineering units that manufacture the necessary equipment for the new units of the Bushehr plant, and we will continue our cooperation and activities," he said.

Regarding the deployment of personnel back to the facility, Likhachev outlined that a phased return is under consideration as safety conditions improve. The Rosatom chief's remarks reaffirm Russia's commitment to the Bushehr project despite ongoing geopolitical tensions.

According to Mehr News Agency, the Bushehr nuclear power plant, located in southern Iran, is Iran's first nuclear power plant and has been a symbol of Iran-Russia cooperation in the nuclear energy sector. The plant's construction was completed with Russian assistance, and it currently operates under IAEA safeguards.
