The commander of Iran's Border Guard, Brigadier General Ali Akbar Javidan, said border guards identified a network attempting to smuggle a large consignment of weapons and ammunition into the country through intelligence and technical surveillance, according to Mehr News Agency (MNA).

General Javidan said the forces launched an operation after identifying and monitoring the smugglers' movements. During the operation, one suspect was arrested and two vehicles were impounded.

The commander said the operation led to the discovery and seizure of 71 military-grade handguns, 144 handgun magazines and 343 rounds of ammunition.

According to General Javidan, the smugglers had intended to bring the weapons and ammunition into the country to carry out terrorist operations and undermine public security, particularly in Sistan and Baluchestan Province.

The report by Mehr News Agency (MNA) did not provide further details on the identity of the suspect, the exact location of the operation, or the status of any additional individuals linked to the network.
