Iran-US talks begin in Switzerland with Pakistani and Qatari mediation

Bilateral talks between Iran and the United States have commenced in Switzerland, with mediation by senior Pakistani and Qatari officials. The one-day summit, hosted at the Bürgenstock resort in Switzerland, is being referred to as the Lake Lucerne Summit.

According to media reports, a Qatari delegation headed by Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani met with the Iranian delegation. Meanwhile, a Pakistani delegation led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir met with the American delegation, which includes Vice President J. D. Vance, US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, and Jared Kushner, President Trump's son-in-law.

The Iranian delegation is headed by Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, with Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi also part of the team. Araghchi earlier met with his Swiss counterpart. The Pakistani and US delegations were seen shaking hands before the formal talks.

Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei, accompanying the Iranian delegation, told media that the talks are expected to conclude within the day. An emergency session has been set aside to discuss the situation in Lebanon, amid reports that Iran has closed the Strait of Hormuz, blaming continued Israeli aggression on Lebanon.

According to Mehr News, the talks aim to address bilateral issues between Iran and the US, with the mediation of Pakistan and Qatar playing a key role in facilitating the dialogue.
