In his regular press conference on Monday, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei addressed recent claims by former US President Donald Trump regarding Iran's uranium stockpiles. Baghaei rejected Trump's assertions, referring to a previous US commando operation during a 40-day conflict aimed at seizing uranium stockpiles in central Iran, which he described as a total failure. He warned that repeating such an operation would be unwise.
Baghaei also discussed the status of nuclear negotiations, noting that the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) currently in place serves as a framework for a future final deal. He clarified that the nuclear issue is addressed only in principle within the MoU, with detailed discussions postponed to later stages.
He stated that during the 60-day period allocated for talks to reach a final agreement, the nuclear issue and the removal of sanctions will be discussed exclusively. Baghaei emphasized that the right to enrich uranium and the management of highly-enriched uranium stockpiles are two key matters to be addressed in the upcoming technical talks.
According to Mehr News, Baghaei's remarks come amid ongoing tensions between Iran and the United States over Iran's nuclear program. The spokesman reiterated Iran's position that its nuclear activities are peaceful and that it will not bow to external pressure.
