54 injured, 18 missing in Qatar factory blast

At least 54 people were injured and 18 others are missing following a gas explosion at a factory in Qatar's Ras Laffan industrial area, the country's Ministry of Interior reported on Sunday.

The ministry stated on social media platform X that the explosion was a "technical accident" and assured that there was no threat to public safety. The search-and-rescue team of the Internal Security Force's Lekhwiya, along with the Civil Defense Department, is conducting operations to locate the missing persons.

The ministry did not specify whether the explosion caused damage to the plant, which supplies gas to the domestic market. Residents in several districts of Doha reported feeling unusual tremors resembling an earthquake on Sunday evening.

According to Press TV, the incident occurred at one of the plants in the Ras Laffan industrial area. The cause of the technical accident is under investigation.
