SaveAraghchi says aggressors must be held accountable for environmental damage
Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi stated in a social media post that protecting the environment against military aggression and holding the enemies of the land accountable is an undeniable necessity, adding: "We neither forgive nor forget." He recalled remarks he made on Sunday at the first International ECOCIDE Conference at the Department of Environment, where he described environmental destruction during war as a silent crime with consequences that extend beyond the battlefield.
Araghchi said military attacks by the United States and the Zionist regime against Iran and the targeting of the country's oil and energy facilities have created serious environmental hazards. He warned these could threaten human health, natural resources, and the right of future generations to a healthy environment.
The foreign minister's comments underscore Iran's position that such actions constitute ecocide and must be addressed. He reiterated the need for accountability, stating that the aggressors must be held responsible for the environmental damage caused by their military operations.
According to Mehr News, Araghchi's remarks were made in the context of ongoing tensions and highlight Iran's concerns over the environmental impact of conflict. The report added that the ECOCIDE conference served as a platform to discuss the legal and moral implications of environmental destruction during wartime.
