Iranian FM Araghchi visits Oman for Strait of Hormuz talks

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has departed for Oman to hold talks on the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, according to Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmail Baghaei. The visit is part of ongoing bilateral consultations between Iran and Oman regarding regional developments, particularly the strategic waterway.

The two foreign ministers are expected to discuss and exchange views on establishing appropriate arrangements for the safe transit of ships through the Strait of Hormuz, in accordance with Article 5 of the Islamabad memorandum of understanding. This agreement provides a framework for cooperation between the two countries on maritime security.

The visit comes after weeks of heightened tensions in the region, including U.S. strikes on Iranian coastal posts and retaliatory operations by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) against American bases in Bahrain and Kuwait. The Strait of Hormuz, a vital passage for global oil shipments, has been a focal point of these tensions.

Iran and Oman have previously agreed to coordinate on strait management, and this visit aims to further that cooperation. According to Mehr News Agency, the discussions are a continuation of efforts to ensure stability and security in the waterway.
