Iran FM Araghchi Urges Greater OIC Focus on Palestine in Meeting with Brunei Counterpart

Iran's Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi met with the Foreign Minister of Brunei, Dato Erywan Pehin Yusof, in New York on Friday on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), according to Mehr News. The two top diplomats exchanged views on bilateral ties and recent regional and international developments, with particular attention to issues concerning the Islamic world, including the question of Palestine.

During the meeting, Araghchi emphasized that the Palestinian issue should be addressed more than before. He called on the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to pay greater attention to the Palestinian question. The Iranian foreign minister pointed to what he described as the intensification of the occupying regime's crimes against Palestinians in Gaza, the West Bank, the Holy City of al-Quds and other parts of occupied Palestine, as well as the regime's continued aggression against Lebanon and other Islamic nations.

Araghchi underscored the necessity of urgent action to counter what he termed the Zionist regime's colonial expansionism. The discussions took place against the backdrop of the ongoing UN General Assembly session, where member states gather to address major international and regional matters.

The meeting between the Iranian and Bruneian foreign ministers reflects continued diplomatic engagement on the sidelines of the UNGA, where Iran has been raising the Palestinian issue in talks with counterparts from various countries. Brunei, a member of the OIC, maintains diplomatic relations with Iran and has previously voiced positions on Palestinian rights within international forums.

The report by Mehr News added that the two diplomats also reviewed bilateral relations between Tehran and Bandar Seri Begawan, though no further details on specific agreements or outcomes were provided. The Iranian foreign minister's remarks reiterate Tehran's longstanding position calling for collective Islamic action on the Palestinian issue through the OIC and other multilateral channels.
