SaveOfficial says about $1.5 billion in goods exported annually through Mehran border
Ahmad Karami, speaking at a ceremony marking World Standards Day on Sunday, said that Ilam province can strengthen its position in export markets because it benefits from the Mehran International Border and substantial production capacity. He estimated that more than 2.5 million tons of goods are transited and transported through the Mehran border crossing each year, and that about $1.5 billion in goods are exported annually through the same crossing.
Karami stressed that observing necessary standards in production and exports is required to maintain the credibility of Iranian goods in target markets. He linked standards to the protection of consumer rights, stating that verifying the accuracy of weights and measurements is a key responsibility within the standards sector. He noted that even a shortfall of a few grams in a product, given the high volume of production and supply, can result in the infringement of the rights of a large number of consumers.
He also emphasized the need for continuous oversight of construction materials, elevators, and amusement park equipment. According to Karami, adherence to standards in these areas is directly linked to public safety and health, and inspections must be carried out continuously.
The remarks were made during the commemoration ceremony of World Standards Day. The Mehr News report added that the event highlighted the role of standards in trade and consumer protection.
