Iran's top security official, Major General Mohsen Rezaei, said on Monday that any attack against the country would be met with devastating strikes using new and modern weapons, according to Mehr News Agency (MNA). He also said Tehran remains open to diplomacy if its seven declared conditions are fulfilled.
Rezaei said Iran has repeatedly stressed that its seven conditions must be met for a diplomatic path to remain open. "However, if any action is taken against the country, in accordance with the directive issued today by the Leader of the Islamic Revolution to the Armed Forces, we will deliver devastating blows to the aggressor using new weapons," he warned.
His remarks followed a meeting between the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei, and senior military commanders. According to the report, the Leader emphasized the need for intelligent combat readiness to achieve maximum deterrence and directed the Armed Forces to respond immediately, effectively, and without geographical restrictions to any threat, regardless of its nature or level. He also ordered a comprehensive update of the military target database so that all physical and non-physical assets of what the report described as the US-Zionist enemy fall within the reach of Iran's Armed Forces.
The statements come amid heightened tensions covered under the outlet's topics of US-Iran and US-Israeli confrontation with Iran. Rezaei's comments set out two tracks: a diplomatic path conditional on the seven conditions being met, and a military posture backed by the Leader's directive to the Armed Forces. The report did not specify the seven conditions or detail the new weapons referred to.
According to Mehr News Agency, the remarks were made after the Leader's meeting with senior commanders and his directive on immediate and unrestricted response to threats, along with the order to update the military target database.
