A Kuwaiti oil tanker traveling along a route designated by the United States in the Strait of Hormuz was targeted last night, according to maritime tracking data. The vessel had deliberately turned off its Automatic Identification System (AIS) to avoid detection, but the attack still occurred, highlighting the vulnerability of ships using that corridor.
This incident is the third oil tanker to be hit in the region within the past 24 hours. The attacks underscore Iran's asserted dominance over the Strait of Hormuz, as most vessels have recently chosen the northern corridor coordinated by Iran to pass safely. Ships opting for the southern route have been targeted, demonstrating Iran's effective control over the strategic waterway.
The current conditions indicate that vessel traffic is only possible through the northern corridor with Iran's coordination. According to Mehr News Agency (MNA), the attack violates Iran's sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz.
