TEHRAN, Jun. 16 (MNA) – The first night of the mourning month of Muharram was observed in Tehran’s Enghelab-e-Eslami Roundabout on Monday. The ceremony saw the participation of devotees of the Household of the Holy Prophet, particularly Hazrat Imam Hussein (AS).
Participants gathered to mark the beginning of Muharram, a month of mourning for Shia Muslims worldwide. The event featured traditional elegies and sermons highlighting the sacrifices of Imam Hussein (AS) and his companions in the Battle of Karbala.
According to Mehr News Agency, the gathering was held with strict adherence to religious protocols and drew a large crowd of mourners. The Enghelab Roundabout, a major square in central Tehran, served as the venue for this solemn occasion.
The first night of Muharram sets the tone for the subsequent ten days of mourning, culminating in Ashura, the day of Imam Hussein's martyrdom. Similar ceremonies are being held across Iran and other countries with Shia populations.
