Twelve teenagers wounded in shooting at Georgia birthday party

A shooting at a park in Macon, Georgia, early Sunday morning left 12 teenagers wounded, according to Bibb County Sheriff David Davis. The incident occurred shortly after midnight at Carolyn Crayton Park, Davis said during a news conference.

Davis said a group of young people had gathered at the park to celebrate a woman's 18th birthday after they were asked to leave a home that had been rented for the party several hours earlier. At some point, another group arrived at the park and a confrontation took place. "Both groups exchanged words, brandished firearms and then began firing at each other," Davis said, according to the Associated Press.

Investigators were still working to determine how the two groups were connected and what led to the hostilities. Surveillance video from the park captured an eruption of gunfire that lasted about 30 seconds as people fled the area, Davis said.

The wounded teenagers were taken for medical treatment. No further details on their conditions were immediately available. The sheriff's office continued to investigate the shooting. According to Mehr News, the shooting is the latest in a series of incidents involving firearms at public gatherings in the United States.
