Iran and Turkmenistan presidents meet in Ashgabat to discuss bilateral ties

Presidents Masoud Pezeshkian of Iran and Serdar Berdimuhamedow of Turkmenistan met on Friday in Ashgabat on the sidelines of a Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) summit. During the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on ways to develop and deepen mutual ties across various political, economic, and trade fields.

Both leaders called for strengthening joint cooperation and stressed the need to accelerate the implementation of previously agreed projects aimed at expanding bilateral relations. They also discussed regional cooperation and issues related to the Caspian Sea, emphasizing the importance of enhancing cooperation among Caspian littoral states, protecting the sea's environment, and developing joint interactions in line with the interests of the regional countries.

The meeting took place during the CIS summit, a gathering that brings together several former Soviet republics. Iran has observer status in the CIS and has sought to deepen ties with member states, particularly its neighbors in Central Asia and the Caspian region. Turkmenistan, which shares a border with Iran and is a fellow Caspian littoral state, is a key partner in these efforts.

According to Mehr News, the two presidents reaffirmed their commitment to advancing bilateral projects and regional collaboration.
